Chip some brick off a wall, grind it into dust, mix with water. Then, ask people what colour this is. Depending on their job, you’ll get very different answers! Someone outdoorsy might call it ‘brick red’, while artists could say it’s ‘burnt sienna’. A designer or engineer—sticklers for standardisation—might start pulling up six-digit HTML codes to be ‘most accurate’. But if there’s no perfect answer, how do industries that rely on colour accuracy survive? Fields like filmmaking, fashion, design or the art world? We explore this idea of visual knowledge in our Holi Quiz, where you’ll have to match 10 colours to their ‘official’ names.
As a person’s colour perception varies based on eyesight, lighting, past knowledge and screen differences, we have used professional Pantone shade cards to make this Holi quiz a fair experience. Note that every question will have hints, and every option (even the wrong ones) is a real Pantone name…except for one. If you score 8/10 or find the impostor, let us know on @iepuzzles! The highest possible score is 100. Happy solving.
