The 2024 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) begins on March 22 (Friday) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai when defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) face off against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). It’s a clash that pits two former India captains against each other: CSK’s Mahendra Singh Dhoni and RCB’s Virat Kohli.
Due to the general elections also being held this year, it was decided that the schedule for IPL 2024 will be announced in batches. In the first batch, the schedule for the first 21 matches — till April 7 — was released.
After the opening encounter between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), the next day will see the season;s first double header with Punjab Kings taking on Delhi Capitals at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali while Kolkata Knight Riders will face off against SunRiders Hyderabad at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata in the day’s second game.
One of the most intriguing clashes this season will be on Sunday, March 24 when five-time champions Mumbai Indians visit Ahmedabad to play Gujarat Titans, who were the runners-up last year and the champions the season before that. The clash will see Mumbai’s newly-anointed captain Hardik Pandya lead the team against his old franchise Gujarat at his old stomping grounds of the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Like every year, while weekdays will see single matches, there will be double headers on weekends with the first games starting at 3:30 PM IST and the evening games starting at 07:30 PM IST.
