The 2024 season of the Indian Premier League will be the 17th edition of the IPL. In IPL 2024, 10 teams will be in the fray. Two teams — Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings — have won the title five times each.

In terms of all-time batting records, Indian cricket talisman Virat Kohli is the leading run-scorer in the league (before the IPL 2024 season begins) with 7,263 runs from 229 innings. He has scored seven hundreds and 50 half-centuries. Shikhar Dhawan is second in the table with 6,617 runs from 216 innings. While David Warner (6,397 runs) is third, the Australian is the only foreign player in the top 5. Rohit Sharma (6,211) and Suresh Raina (5,528) close out the top 5.

Kohli also holds the record for most runs scored in a single IPL season: 973 in 2016.

In terms of all-time bowling records, India’s wily spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is the leading wicket-taker in the league (before the IPL 2024 season begins) with 187 from 144 innings. He has claimed one five-wicket haul in the league complemented by six four-wicket hauls. West Indies’ Dwayne Bravo is second in the table with 183 wickets from 158 innings.

The Indian spin troika of Piyush Chawla (179 wickets from 180 innings), Amit Mishra (173 wickets from 161 innings) and Ravichandran Ashwin (171 wickets from 194 innings) are in the top five wicket-takers in the league in the first 16 seasons.
