A two-year-old boy died after falling into a manhole in Gurgaon on Wednesday, police said. The incident took place at 5pm, said police, adding the child has been identified as Pradeep Kumar. His father, Bhagat Kumar, hails from Nepal and has been living in Village Seehi for the past two years, running a tea shop.
The child was playing near his shop when he fell into the nearby manhole, leading to his death, police said. The father lodged a complaint with the police on Thursday, stating that the act of leaving the drain/sewer open on part of the administration and the department concerned amounts to gross negligence, due to which the child died.
Based on the complaint, an FIR was filed under sections 283 and 304A of the IPC. The child’s body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination. The complainant stated, “While playing, my son fell into a 50-foot deep open drain located at a distance from the shop and lacks proper covering…After searching for some time, we found him in the open drain. We called 102 and had him taken to the government hospital. However, the doctors declared him dead,” he said.
