New Zealand’s Kane Williamson has got himself runout bizarrely during the first Test against Australia at the Basin Reserve in Wellington on Friday. The score was 12-1 when the Kiwi talisman walked into the middle and the mishap happened a couple of balls later as he walked back without troubling the scorers.

The New Zealand number three pushed a ball straight to mid-off Marnus Labuschange and tried to snatch a single. Non-striker Will Young who was running from the same side of the pitch collided with Williamson, who was ball-watching.

The bowler Mitchell Starc after delivering the ball turned around to see where the ball was. This resulted in an obstacle for Williamson too as he had to go around two players to get to the other end but Labuschange got the throw in and hit the stumps directly.

Cameron Green’s brilliance saves the day for Australia

Asking to bat first on Day 1 Australia where in a bit of a pickle. However, Green in his new number four role delivered his international Test-best 174 taking the visitors to a competitive 383 in the first innings.

“It feels pretty good … It was a pretty tough wicket out there,” said Green, who kissed the crest on his helmet after bringing up his hundred.

“I thought the boys played pretty well.”

“It was nice to kind of stick out there and hopefully put a semi-competitive total on the board.”

Festive offer

As per New Zealand, Matt Henry took five wickets, while Scott Kuggeleijn took two victims as the fourth seamer, with selectors opting for more pace rather than the slow-bowling all-rounder Mitch Santner.

In reply, New Zealand has got to a horrid start as they lost half their side for 29 and have a lot of deficit to make up.
