Kangana Ranaut recently began her political journey by securing candidacy for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from her hometown, Mandi, in Himachal Pradesh. In a recent interview, the actor-turned-politician extended her support to fellow actor and BJP MP Hema Malini, condemning what she described as sexist and misogynistic remarks made by Congress leader Randeep Surjewala. Kangana praised Hema for dedicating her entire life to the arts, and denounced such comments as ‘despicable.’

Speaking to India Today, she remarked, “If they see a young woman, they comment on her body. And a 75-year-old senior woman, who is a Bharatanatyam dancer, is called ‘nachaniya’ or dancer and abuses like this. They don’t even spare an elderly woman. What kind of life do they want women to live? Would it be better if they dig their own graves and bury themselves in it?”

The Queen actor added, “Such despicable thinking about a woman, that too for an artist who has dedicated her entire life to art… Not a single day would have gone by when he would not have practiced for 3-4 hours. Isn’t one of our Vedas, Samaveda, which discusses music and dance in detail? So, the thinking of those who make indecent comments on him by not seeing him as a knowledgeable person or a sage or a great personality is not hidden from anyone.”

Earlier, a video of Congress leader Randeep Surjewala from a rally went viral on social media. The clip showed him allegedly making indecent remarks about Hema Malini. Later, he took to X and claimed that the clip was ‘distorted.’

The BJP announced Kangana Ranaut’s candidature from the Mandi parliamentary seat on March 24. The actor’s last three films – Tejas, Dhaakad, and Thalaivii – bombed at box office. After this setback, she announced her venture into politics.
