The AAP on Thursday filed a complaint against the BJP for putting up “objectionable” posters of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

AAP’s national secretary Pankaj Gupta and senior leader Atishi, among others, visited the ECI office on Thursday and filed a written complaint with the Delhi CEO (chief electoral officer).

BJP has put up objectionable posters and photos of CM Arvind Kejriwal in several areas. About six days ago, our legal team filed a complaint about these posters… Today (Thursday), we met the Delhi CEO and filed a complaint with him. It is concerning for us… that even after six days, no action has been taken against the BJP. This is particularly worrying because serious questions about a level playing field are being raised this election (Lok Sabha polls),” said Atishi.

“Today, the entire country is concerned about whether every party is getting a level playing field for the Lok Sabha elections or not, because if action is not being taken on some posters and hoardings even after six days, what solution is there for even bigger problems?” asked the Delhi Water Minister.

“If requisite action is not taken, we will then ask for time (for a meeting) from the ECI…,” she said.

Festive offer

On being asked about an image of jailed CM Kejriwal’s placed between the portraits of Bhagat Singh and Dr BR Ambedkar — as could be seen during a video briefing of Sunita Kejriwal on Thursday — Atishi said: “Like they fought for our country, freedom, Constitution, and democracy, Arvind Kejriwal is also fighting against BJP’s taana-shaafi.”

Hitting back on the issue, the Delhi BJP unit said that “pointing fingers at the ECI is an insult to constitutional arrangements”. Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said: “Atishi wants immediate action from the ECI, but despite receiving a defamation notice for insulting BJP with her words, she remains silent… even after two days…”
