Fu Bao, a giant panda that grew up at Everland theme park in Yongin, South Korea, left for China after a heart-warming farewell ceremony on Wednesday.
Around 6,000 fans gathered to see Fu Bao travel on a special truck for 20 minutes around the park, reported The Korea Herald. An Instagram post uploaded by the newspaper explained how caregivers Song Young-kwan and “Fubao’s grandpa,” zookeeper Kang Cheol-won, thanked the crowd for their love for Fu Bao.
Despite his recent personal loss, Kang will travel with Fu Bao to China to ensure her well-being. In the video one can see the zookeeper breaking down as he reads his speech to Fu Bao.
The video has captured a million hearts. A netizen wrote, “This is so sad why can’t she stay the zookeeper’s are like her family.” Another worte, “How dare you make me cry in the middle of office???” And a third went on to say, “i still remember when FuBao was just born, and how little she was back then.”
Born at Everland, Fu Bao is part of a breeding programme run by South Korea and China. The panda’s new home will be the Shenshuping Panda Base at Wolong in China’s Sichuan province.
