Former Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy richest among 3 Gowda family members contesting Lok Sabha polls, shows affidavits

Of the three members of the JD(S), including two from supremo H D Deve Gowda’s family, contesting the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the party’s state president and former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy is the richest. His wealth, however, is shadowed by his wife Anita Kumaraswamy, whose assets are worth thrice more than that of Kumaraswamy.

The affidavit submitted by H D Kumaraswamy Thursday showed that the value of his assets grew by around 15 per cent since the 2023 Assembly polls. While his total assets were worth Rs 46.57 crore, it increased by around Rs 8 crore to Rs 54.65 crore. The wealth of his wife and former MLA Anita Kumaraswamy increased by around Rs 20 crore during the same period, growing from Rs 134.72 crore in 2023 to Rs 154.39 crore in 2024.

The affidavit shows that H D Kumaraswamy is an accused in three cases filed with the Lokayukta, of which two are in connection with illegal mining filed in 2014 and another related to denotification of lands in 2015. H D Kumaraswamy is also the owner of 750 gm of gold jewellery valued at Rs 47.06 lakh, while his wife has 3.8 kg of ornaments worth Rs 2.41 crore. The liabilities of H D Kumaraswamy and his spouse stand at Rs 19.12 crore and Rs 63.05 crore, respectively.

Gowda’s son-in-law Dr C N Manjunath is also contesting the polls from the Bengaluru Rural constituency on a BJP ticket as a part of the arrangement between coalition partners BJP and JD(S). The value of his movable and immovable assets is Rs 6.98 crore and Rs 36.65 crore, respectively, totalling Rs 43.63 crore. The total worth of his spouse Anusuya’s assets stands at Rs 52.66 crore.

The third member of the family is Prajwal Revanna, JD(S) candidate from Hassan and Deve Gowda’s grandson. He has movable assets worth Rs 5.48 crore, while his immovable assets are worth Rs 35.40 crore.
